Sierra is a local pigment artist and paint maker by trade. They work with natural soil and botanical pigments to create earthy and grounding watercolour paints and art supplies. Their inspiration is deeply rooted in the wild spaces they frequent, and that can always be felt in their work. From bright crimson ochers to deep indigo blues, their colours spark a connection to the landscapes where they're found. Each pigment has a story to tell, and uncovering it is all part of the fun.

Hey folks! I'm Sierra, the face behind Understory Supply Co. I'm a pigment artist and a paint maker, and my pronouns are they/them. I grew up here in Victoria and have always been fascinated by the colours in our local forests and mountains. In 2020, I started learning the art of pigment foraging and paint making. I'm mostly self taught, with a little guidance from other talented pigment workers in the North-West. I fell in love right away with the idea of painting with natural and local colours, pigments that come directly from the soil under my feet. Each pigment is unique and imperfect in the best way possible. My favourite part of the process is seeing how they interact on paper. They can be intricate and unpredictable, just like the wild spaces they come from.
